  BANDAR PERMAISURI: A logger escaped death after being attacked by a sun bear in Kampung Tok Dor, Ajil, near Hulu Terengganu. Mohd Syukri Zakaria, 39, lived to tell what saved him from the scary incident that occurred on Feb 1. The logging supervisor said in the 8am incident, he and his friend were about to start fixing a broken water pipe when they heard a strange noise. SUNGAI PETANI: An auxiliary firefighter who was injured after being bitten by a sun bear in Kampung Kabu Sepuluh, Selengkoh Tengah, Yan, is now in stable condition. Yan Fire and Rescue station chief Noorhamidi Ali said the 27-year-old Mohd Nizam Hamid's condition improved after a surgery on Friday. "The victim's condition has improved after undergoing surgery to treat injury to blood vessels on his right hand," Sinar Harian reported him as saying. He added that Mohd Nizam is still being treated at the Sultan Abdul Halim (HSAH) Hospital. It was reported on Thursday that Mohd Nizam was injured after being bitten by the bear while trying to corral the animal. ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) captured a sun bear that wandered into a padi field in Kampung Selengkoh, Yan at about 12.50pm on Thursday (Feb 2). Its director Jamalun Nasir Ibrahim said the female sun bear, weighing about 90kg, was believed to have come from a forest area in Gunung Jerai. "The bear is believed to have come out of its habitat in search of food and subsequently been disoriented after going into the village area while finding its way back into the forest. "The bear was captured using tranquilisers with the help of members of the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force and RELA (the Malaysia Volunteers Corps Department)," he said when contacted by Bernama on Thursday.
